TX Senate District 4 Special Election Set

Governor Rick Perry has announced that the special election for Texas Senate District 4 will take place on May 10, 2014.

The election is to fill the seat left vacant by Texas State Senator Tommy Williams' resignation (R-The Woodlands). Sen. Williams resigned to retire from public service and accept a position with Texas A&M University (TAMU). On October 3rd, Williams announced he would not seek re-election. On Oct. 25th, he resigned.

District 4 will likely see an interesting campaign focusing on issues vital to Texas and the district. District 4 includes Port Arthur and part of the Gulf Coast region of Texas. This area has a number of factors to consider from economics, international trade, agriculture, water, fishing, and industrial concerns, which include healthcare and labor.

Candidates have until March 10, 2014 to file their applications with sufficient signatures. Early voting is scheduled to begin on April 28. The term will last until the 2016 elections.
